Youth and E-Cigarettes

(MedlinePlus) E-cigarettes, or electronic cigarettes, are battery-operated smoking devices. They often look like cigarettes, but work differently. Using an e-cigarette is called vaping. The user puffs on the mouthpiece of a cartridge. This causes a vaporizer to heat the liquid inside the cartridge. The liquid contains nicotine, flavorings, and other chemicals. The heated liquid turns into the vapor that is inhaled.

UA Science Internship Pairs High School Students, Research Mentors

Each year many SWEHSC researchers host high school students in their laboratories. Facility managers assits them process their samples and understand their data. SWEHSC members teach them about toxicology and environmental health. The program was designed by the SWEHSC Outreach Core and is conducted in collaboration with the BIO5 Instutue. Toxic Detectives

The Toxic Detectives summer camp is an amazing opportunity for middle school students (entering grades 6 -8) to learn real world connections to toxicology and the environment. In addition, students will explore the U of A campus environment.
